Barry B. Sookman serves as senior counsel in the Technology Law Group at McCarthy Tétrault LLP. As a former leader of the firm’s Intellectual Property Group, he stands as one of Canada’s foremost authorities in the realms of information technology, Internet, copyright, and privacy law.

Barry specializes in handling complex IT/AI/IP transactions and defense procurements, as well as representing clients in IT/IP litigation. He has successfully argued numerous precedent-setting cases across all court levels, including the Supreme Court of Canada. Alongside his legal practice, Barry contributes to academia as an Adjunct Professor of IP law at Osgoode Hall Law School.

An accomplished author, Barry has penned several influential works, with the leading eight-volume treatise ‘Computer, Internet and Electronic Commerce’ standing out among them.
