Billie Fortier is a dedicated legal associate specializing in advising First Nations and Métis communities on critical aspects such as economic development, commercial leasing, industry partnerships, and community governance. Her role includes representing Indigenous communities and businesses in negotiations with resource companies, facilitating joint ventures and various business alliances.

Billie offers exceptional counsel to Indigenous leadership on corporate structuring, financial management, governance, and the crafting of laws and bylaws. Her expertise extends to guiding clients across various industries on general commercial matters, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate reorganizations.

With a commanding presence in the courtroom, Billie has represented clients before the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Provincial Court of Alberta. Her regulatory experience includes proceedings before the Alberta Utilities Commission, the Alberta Energy Regulator, and the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada.

Currently, an Executive Fellow at the School of Public Policy and active Executive Member of the Aboriginal Law Subsection of the Canadian Bar Association, Billie has been a member of the Indigenous Bar Association since 2017. Her recognition as a leading practitioner in aboriginal law by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory since 2022 and the recipient of the Lexpert Rising Star Award in 2021 underscores her exceptional contribution to the legal field.
