Pierre Langlois, Counsel at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, is recognized as one of Canada’s foremost authorities in natural resources, energy, and environment law. Since obtaining his Doctor of Laws degree and his call to the Quebec Bar in 1968, Mr. Langlois has played a pivotal role in the Canadian legal landscape, particularly in matters related to the acquisition, exploration, and development of natural resources and mining projects.
His practice spans every stage of mining and natural resource projects, including prospecting, exploration, development, pre-production, operation, and site rehabilitation. Pierre has extensive experience negotiating and drafting impact and benefits agreements with Native communities, designing and implementing environmental management systems, and conducting environmental compliance reviews.
Pierre Langlois has also contributed to the legislative and regulatory frameworks governing land, mining, resource, and environmental regimes, notably participating in the creation and implementation of laws arising from the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement, which has guided settlement of Native claims in Northern Quebec.
Beyond his distinguished legal practice, Pierre served as a lecturer in mining law at the Faculty of Law, University of Montreal (2007–2019) in the Master of Business Law program, sharing his deep industry knowledge with future professionals.
Pierre Langlois is a multiple-recipient of the ‘Lawyer of the Year’ title in Montreal for natural resources, mining, and Aboriginal law according to The Best Lawyers in Canada (2012, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2024), and is consistently rated in the Lexpert Guide to the Leading US/Canada Cross-Border Corporate Lawyers in Canada.
