Stephen A. Pike is a highly respected Toronto-based partner at Gowling WLG and serves as the co-leader of the firm’s Canadian ESG Advisory Services Practice. With a distinguished career spanning several decades, Stephen provides vital counsel to Canadian, American, and global businesses on a wide array of corporate law and governance, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), transactional, operational, and risk management matters.
Recognized for his deep expertise in ESG, Stephen advises organizations on strategies to address and mitigate risks related to forced labour and child labour in supply chains. He is a prolific writer and speaker in both Canada and the United States on ESG compliance, corporate responsibility, and governance best practices. Stephen is also co-editor of ESG in the Boardroom: A Guidebook for Directors, published by the American Bar Association (ABA), and host of the ABA’s Business Law Section “ESG in the Boardroom” podcast series.
Stephen’s extensive credentials include being a Certified Corporate Director (ICD.D), board member of the International Commission of Jurists – Canada, and Co-Chair of the ESG Joint Subcommittee of the Corporate Governance and Federal Regulation of Securities Committees of the ABA’s Business Law Section. He also contributes to the Canadian Cancer Society as a member of the Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee.
He frequently shares his insights as faculty for Osgoode Hall Law School’s “ESG, Climate Risk and the Law” Certificate Course, as well as course leader for “Managing Legal and Business Risk in the Supply Chain.”
