Stephen W. Bowman is Vice Chair and Managing Partner, People and Talent at Bennett Jones LLP, one of Canada’s premier law firms. As a distinguished member of the firm’s Tax Department, Stephen heads the firm’s China and Asia Initiatives and brings over four decades of experience in legal practice since being called to the Ontario Bar in 1981.

With an accomplished career spanning mergers, acquisitions, corporate restructuring, and corporate finance, Stephen is recognized for his expertise in complex trans-border transactions, asset-based financing, and equipment leasing. He has guided major Canadian and international clients through high-stakes business operations and helped facilitate seamless financial solutions on a global scale.

Stephen also provides trusted advice on estate planning, business succession, and philanthropic initiatives. He assists Canadian and foreign clients in establishing, operating, and reorganizing estate planning structures to support family, wealth, and legacy objectives.

Stephen’s thought leadership is evident in his contributions as a co-author in influential publications such as Tax Policy in Canada and U.S. Taxation of Foreign Controlled Businesses. He is a recipient of the prestigious Canadian Tax Foundation’s Douglas J. Sherbaniuk Distinguished Writing Award and has been recognized in Chambers Canada and The Legal 500 Canada for excellence in the area of Tax.

Committed to the advancement of the legal profession, Stephen serves on the Council of the International Bar Association’s Section on Public and Professional Interest and is the Immediate Past Chair of the IBA’s Law Firm Management Committee.
