Tom Hunter is a highly respected partner at Gowling WLG’s Waterloo Region office, specializing in corporate, commercial, and technology law. With over three decades of experience, Tom is recognized for his strategic counsel to entrepreneurs, owner-operators, and technology-driven companies. He has a proven track record assisting start-ups and growth-oriented businesses with mergers and acquisitions, financing, and all aspects of technology commercialization.

As the former co-chair of the firm’s national Technology Law Group and past department head of the Waterloo Region Business Law Group, Tom brings profound industry insight to every client engagement. He has served as lead counsel for more than $1.5 billion in successful founder monetization and exit transactions, representing both high-tech and traditional economy clients.

Tom also holds key leadership roles outside of his practice, serving as a director on the boards of several innovative technology companies in the Waterloo Region. His dedication to the community is evident through his pro bono legal services for not-for-profits and his involvement on the boards of several local charities.

As a trusted voice in the field, Tom is a frequent guest lecturer on topics such as financing and technology commercialization.
