Valerie A. Edwards is a senior member of Torkin Manes’ litigation group and a highly respected member of the Canadian litigation bar. With over 35 years of experience, Valerie is recognized for her in-depth knowledge and dedication in the areas of commercial litigation and professional liability/insurance litigation. She has acted as trial counsel and appellate counsel before both the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada.

Valerie handles a broad range of complex legal matters including commercial disputes, shareholder and partnership conflicts, real estate and mortgage disputes, and the quantification of damages. She has deep expertise in claims involving business loss, share and business valuations, real property valuations, and employment litigation, including lawsuits relating to departing employees. Her practice also covers class proceedings, claims against directors and officers, and professional liability cases involving lawyers, realtors, brokers, and accountants. In the field of insurance law, Valerie regularly advises on insurance coverage disputes.

In addition to her litigation work, Valerie is an experienced mediator and arbitrator. She has served as the chairwoman of the Class Proceedings Committee, a tribunal created under the regulations of the Class Proceedings Act. Her commitment to legal education is reflected in her frequent contributions as a speaker at continuing legal education (CLE) seminars sponsored by the Law Society of Ontario and the Canadian Bar Association.
