Andrew Lokan specializes in constitutional law, appellate advocacy, complex commercial litigation, and administrative and labour law. With extensive experience, Andrew is also an educator at Osgoode Hall Law School and has taught at the University of Ottawa and Monash University in Australia. A distinguished academic, he earned his LLB from the University of Ottawa in 1988 and an LLM from Harvard University in 1989. Following his studies, he clerked for former Justice Beverley McLachlin of the Supreme Court of Canada and was called to the Bar in 1991.
As Chair of the Board of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, Andrew is dedicated to pro bono work for the Association. His advocacy extends across all levels of court in Ontario, including over 25 appearances at the Supreme Court of Canada and more than 30 at the Ontario Court of Appeal. His expertise is further recognized through appearances in various provinces on constitutional and administrative law cases.
Andrew is the co-author of the authoritative text, Lokan & Dassios, Constitutional Litigation in Canada, and has an extensive publication record on public law issues. Acknowledged for his legal acumen, Andrew is listed in The Best Lawyers in Canada for Administrative and Public Law and recognized as a Litigation Star in Constitutional and Appellate Litigation by Benchmark Canada.
