Caroline Abela’s strength lies in complex business litigation and estates and trust litigation. Her trusts and estates practice covers will challenges, guardianships, and dependents’ relief matters, perfectly complementing her commercial practice, which includes fraud claims, relationships with privately held family businesses, oppression, and other commercial disputes.
She is a current director of The Advocates’ Society (TAS) and has previously served as the chairwoman of the TAS estates litigation practice group, as well as the trusts and estates law section of the Ontario Bar Association (OBA). Additionally, she has held the position of past co-chairwoman of the international private client committee of the ABA’s section of international law. Caroline was also the national representative of Canada for the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA).
Caroline has been an adjunct professor at Western University’s law school and is a regular instructor on advocacy topics. As a contributing author to a loose-leaf book concerning electronic documents and e-discovery, she is recognized for her expertise. She is repeatedly acknowledged in Best Lawyers in Canada as a leading lawyer in corporate and commercial litigation and was recognized in 2023 as a leading lawyer in trusts and estates. She is nationally recognized by Who’s Who Legal as a leader in asset recovery and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
