Dan Edmondstone is the co-leader of McMillan’s advertising group and a key member of the firm’s competition and marketing law groups. With an extensive focus on competition law, including marketing and advertising matters, Dan is a seasoned expert. He is renowned for authoring McMillan’s Consumer Protection Act (Ontario) (Thomson Reuters) and co-authoring Canadian Advertising and Marketing Law (Carswell). As a co-editor of the “Advertising” chapter in O’Brien’s Forms, Dan excels in all facets of marketing law, including ad standards advertiser disputes and consumer complaints.
Dan offers comprehensive advice on advertising campaigns, competitive claims, substantiation, promotional contests, and risk assessment issues. His expertise extends to a broad array of consumer law compliance topics. Having served as chairman of the marketing law committee of the Canadian Bar Association’s competition law section and the consumer law committee of the Ontario Bar Association, Dan regularly represents clients in mergers under the Competition Act and foreign investments in the Investment Canada Act. He also has vast experience representing defendants in class action matters and advising on pricing and distribution issues under the Competition Act.
