David F. W. Cohen is the national leader of Gowling WLG’s financial institutions and services industry group and a senior practitioner in the firm’s Toronto office. With 30 years of experience, he practices in the areas of corporate and commercial financing, restructuring, and insolvency law, in both domestic and cross-border contexts. He also coordinates the firm’s national distressed M&A practice.

David’s transactional expertise spans a variety of sectors, including automotive, financial services, hospitality, and telecom. Recent projects include the restructuring of a large agricultural product manufacturer and producer, the liquidation and/or restructuring of several major Canadian retail chains, and the restructuring of mining businesses and oil and gas producers.

He has served as global president (2016), global chairman (2017), and global immediate past chairman (2018) of the Turnaround Management Association.
