His practice seamlessly combines extensive litigation experience with expertise in product acquisition and licensing, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. Doug has also served as a director for several start-up pharma companies.

With a focused approach on the clearance, protection, and enforcement of intellectual property rights, Doug represents his clients before both the Federal Court and the Ontario courts. His leadership roles include being the past president of FICPI, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, and former president of FICPI’s Communications Commission.

Doug is a former executive member of the CBA(O) Intellectual Property Section, past president of FICPI Canada, and an active member of the IPIC, AIPLA, AIPPI, and FICPI. His academic contributions include lecturing on IP issues at McGill University, McMaster University, and the University of Toronto. He is a sought-after speaker at national and international conventions on current IP issues.

Doug holds a degree in Engineering from the University of Waterloo and a Law degree from the University of Toronto. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1976 and is a Registered Patent and Trademark Agent.
