Duncan practices corporate commercial law with a focus on energy and infrastructure both in British Columbia and on a national scale. He possesses robust experience in all phases of project development, which includes the negotiation of pre-development agreements, co-ownership agreements, service agreements, tendering processes, and construction contracts.

His extensive portfolio includes leading and participating in negotiations for various projects such as the development of LNG facilities, offshore oil production facilities, pipelines, liquids terminals, and subsurface storage. Additionally, he has managed projects related to water transportation, processing, waste disposal systems, and both gas-fueled and renewables-based power generation.

Duncan is particularly recognized for his sectoral expertise in energy, encompassing traditional oil & gas, power & renewables, as well as emerging asset classes like hydrogen-fueled and electrified low carbon transportation, decentralized power generation, power storage, and energy efficiency. His contributions also extend to the academic realm, where he has assisted in teaching Energy Law and Environmental Law courses at the University of Calgary.

To further distinguish his professional engagement, Duncan is a member of the Canadian Maritime Law Association and was part of the Government of Canada’s Recruitment of Policy Leaders program in Ottawa, where he focused on Indigenous and Northern policy development.
