Gale Rubenstein specializes in commercial insolvency, corporate restructuring, pensions, and regulatory matters. Her practice focuses on both domestic and international financial institutions, emphasizing pension and employee issues during restructurings. Renowned for her expertise, she serves as senior counsel to the Financial Services Regulatory Authority in the restructuring of Laurentian University and the administration of Pace Credit Union.

She has been pivotal in the investor committee’s role during the restructuring of Canadian Third Party ABCP and has been the Monitor in Nortel Canada and Target Canada’s insolvencies. Gale has provided invaluable assistance to the Province of Ontario on high-profile restructurings involving GM, Chrysler, Stelco, and Essar Algoma, as well as GM’s IPO. Her advisory role extends to the liquidators of numerous financial institutions and the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation on bank resolution issues.

Gale Rubenstein is a distinguished member of the Boards of Scarborough Health Network and Algoma Steel Group Inc., and she chairs the Board of Trustees of the University Pension Plan Ontario. Additionally, she leads the Independent Expert Panel reviewing the Nova Scotia Teachers Pension Plan.

Her accolades include recognition as a leading practitioner by Lexpert, Chambers, Euromoney, IFLR1000, Who’s Who Legal: Canada, and Best Lawyers in Canada. Gale is a recipient of the OBA Award for Excellence in Insolvency Law in 2013 and is a Fellow of the Insolvency Institute of Canada.
