Geneviève Cloutier is a leader in the Canadian restructuring and insolvency group at Gowling WLG, serving as a bilingual partner in the firm’s Montreal office. Her practice is chiefly centered on insolvency and restructuring, distressed acquisitions, and banking and commercial litigation.

She regularly represents financial institutions and private lenders in the enforcement of security agreements and personal guarantees, the negotiation of standstill agreements, as well as handling various insolvency-related issues. Her extensive experience includes involvement in corporate reorganizations, arrangements, bankruptcies, receiverships, and liquidations of assets.

Geneviève acts for a diverse range of clients including debtors, lenders, purchasers, secured and unsecured creditors, directors, and accounting firms in their capacity as trustees, monitors, and receivers. She frequently appears before the Superior Court and the Court of Appeal of Quebec, and has also presented cases before the Supreme Court of Canada.

Geneviève was president (2021–22) of the Montreal chapter of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and has been a director for the TMA (Montreal chapter) for seven years. She also brings her expertise to education, teaching priorities and security enforcement at the Quebec Bar School (École du Barreau du Québec) for over a decade.
