Grant Stapon is the co-head of the Wills & Estates Litigation Group in Bennett Jones LLP’s Calgary office, and he is the former head of the Commercial Litigation Group. Grant provides expert legal counsel for energy companies, insurance companies, media organizations, tech companies, individual executives, and the Calgary Police Service. With extensive experience in corporate/commercial, intellectual property, securities, media, oil and gas, insurance, environmental, and occupational health and safety litigation and arbitration, Grant is a trusted name in the legal field. He also maintains a robust employment and labour law practice.

Renowned for his adept advice on governance issues to various public company boards, Grant has appeared before numerous boards, courts, and tribunals across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Newfoundland. He has served as defense counsel in major environmental cases in Alberta, including the Little Buffalo Kemp spill, the Red Deer River Gleniffer Lake spill, the Seal Condensate spill, the OBED dam failure, and the Medicine Hat/Suffield migratory birds case, among other significant environmental cases under investigation or in trial proceedings.

With over 35 years as external counsel to the Calgary Police Service, Grant has advised seven Chiefs of Police, maintaining relationships with many following their service.
