Ian Andres is a seasoned Partner and the head of the Municipal and Land Development Group at Goodmans LLP. With a specialized focus on municipal and planning issues, Ian excels in handling complex development applications and addressing land use policy appeals that involve critical growth management, infrastructure, servicing, environmental, and heritage components.

Ian is adept at representing property owners in various legal proceedings, including expropriation, court applications, tax assessment, and rebate appeals. His extensive experience spans land valuation, development charges, tax incentive grants, and brownfield remediation programs. He provides comprehensive advice on municipal issues, such as governance, accountability, by-law interpretation, financing, taxation, licensing, permitting, procurement, and lobbying.

Regularly appearing before municipal committees, councils, the Ontario Land Tribunal, the Toronto Local Appeal Body, the Assessment Review Board, and the Superior Court of Justice, Ian’s legal prowess is widely recognized. He was honored as one of Lexpert Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40 in 2018. Ian is also recognized in administrative, public, municipal, and real estate law by The Best Lawyers in Canada and is noted for his expertise in real estate: zoning and land use law by Chambers Canada.
