James specializes in M&A and private equity transactions, including buyouts, venture capital, financings, restructurings, and related corporate governance matters. He regularly advises private equity funds, their portfolio companies, and management teams. James has extensive cross-border experience working with Canadian, United States, European, and Asian investors and companies. He collaborates with clients in a broad range of industries, including manufacturing, technology, energy, consumer products, agriculture, and financial services.

James joined Bennett Jones after seven years in New York and London, where he practiced corporate law with a leading New York-based law firm. He serves on the Board of Directors of the I Can For Kids Foundation, a Calgary-based charitable organization focused on ending summer childhood hunger in the community. Additionally, he is on the Board of Directors of the Association for Corporate Growth, Calgary chapter, which is part of a global community of middle-market M&A deal-makers and business leaders aimed at driving growth.

James served as co-editor in chief of the University of Toronto Faculty of Law Review and was president of the University of Toronto Students’ Law Society. He is admitted to practice in Alberta and New York.
