Jennifer A. Marles

Jennifer is an experienced patent practitioner who focuses on patent preparation and prosecution globally, particularly in the agtech, biotech, clean tech, and chemical fields. She helps clients build the value of their companies by securing patent protection in Canada, the United States, and beyond. Jennifer also assists with contractual issues relating to technology development and licensing, investor due diligence, and evaluating freedom to operate.

Jennifer’s accolades include being awarded the Law Society Gold Medal for graduating at the top of her law school class in 2006 and being awarded the J. Edward Maybee Memorial prize for achieving the highest overall mark on the patent agent examinations in 2009. Jennifer is an advocate for education and continuous improvement in the legal and patent agent professions and is frequently invited to speak on topics relating to intellectual property law.

Currently, Jennifer serves on the Patent Practice Committee (a joint committee between the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and the patent agent community) and on the Examining Board for the Patent Agent Qualifying Examinations. Jennifer also served as an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia for 10 years, lecturing on copyright law.
