Kevin A. McGivney

Kevin McGivney is the Toronto regional leader of BLG’s Insurance and Tort Liability Group and an elected member of BLG’s Partnership Board. As a seasoned civil litigation lawyer, Kevin focuses on municipal and police liability. He has appeared as lead counsel before the Superior Court of Justice, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal for Ontario, and the Supreme Court of Canada.

His expertise includes representing municipalities, police services, and their insurers in various liability claims such as defamation and class actions. Kevin also has extensive experience in representing these entities at coroner’s inquests and before the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal.

In addition to his litigation practice, Kevin advises insurers and defends insureds in matters relating to property and casualty claims, insurance policy drafting, and coverage issues. As a prolific writer and speaker, he shares insights on municipal and government liability, police liability, occupiers’ liability, and advocacy issues.

Kevin obtained his LLB from Western University, Faculty of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts in History from King’s University College of Western University. He has been a member of the Ontario Bar since 1991.
