Melissa Binns is a partner in Gowling WLG’s Hamilton office. Her practice focuses on the areas of patent and trademark litigation and pharmaceutical regulatory law, as well as copyright litigation. Her litigation and enforcement experience spans a broad range of subject matters, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, apparel, computer software, information technology, domain names, branding, and famous trademarks.

She has appeared before the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal, representing Canadian and international clients, including leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. As a registered trademark agent, she provides advice on trademark rights protection and enforcement in Canada, covering trademark opposition and expungement proceedings, trademark infringement, trademark litigation, and anti-counterfeiting matters.

Melissa also advises clients on pharmaceutical regulations, trademark portfolio management, biologics, lifecycle issues, patent register listings, data protection, settlement negotiations, and patent litigation, including infringement and impeachment actions. In 2018, she was recognized as one of Lexpert’s “Rising Stars: Leading Lawyers Under 40.”
