Michael P. Canning is an experienced insurance defence litigation partner at Beard Winter LLP. His expertise ranges from bodily injury, products liability, and construction deficiency, to property and fire losses, and professional liability. With over 25 years of dedicated service, Michael’s practice has primarily focused on life and health claims, especially long-term and short-term disability policies, critical illness, life, health, and travel insurance. This includes handling individual, group, and administrative services only (ASO) claims for a wide array of insurers.
Currently leading the Life and Health team at Beard Winter LLP, Michael continues to deliver defence litigation services to an expanding base of institutional clients. He has recently ventured into mediation, leveraging his extensive litigation and settlement experience, particularly in life and health claim resolutions.
Michael has presented at Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA) conferences and has been serving as a member of the Halton Regional Health Center Research Ethics Board since 2021.
