Nicole K. D’Aoust is a highly respected lawyer specializing in charity and not-for-profit law. With a practice that spans governance, corporate structuring, reorganizations, tax-exempt status issues, and operational as well as financial matters, Nicole offers comprehensive legal counsel to a diverse clientele. She advises on both domestic and international activities, qualifying disbursements, related business initiatives, social finance, charitable gifts and receipting, fundraising, endowment management, program-related investments, donor-advised funds, audits, and advocacy for charities and not-for-profit organizations. Bilingual in French and English, Nicole effectively serves clients in both official languages.

Nicole actively participates in the regulatory landscape by serving on the technical issues working group, where she assists in advising the Canada Revenue Agency on the regulation of registered charities and other qualified donees. She is also an engaged member of the charities and not-for-profit law executives of both the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association, and serves on the Canadian Association of Gift Planners’ government relations committee. Nicole has completed CPA Canada’s in-depth tax course and frequently writes and speaks for the Canadian Tax Foundation on matters related to charity and tax law. Since 2022, she has co-chaired the CBA Charity Law Symposium and previously led the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s Young Leadership Council.
