Oliver J. Borgers is a distinguished partner at McCarthy Tétrault LLP, focusing on all aspects of antitrust law, foreign investment, and national security review. With an emphasis on the application of these laws to mergers, acquisitions, notifications, and market conduct, Oliver is a trusted advisor to major global companies. He regularly provides strategic merger advice and has successfully secured competition and foreign investment clearances for some of Canada’s largest and most complex transactions.

As a recognized leader in the legal community, Oliver has served as Chair of the National Competition Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association and has played key roles in several professional organizations. He is the founder of the Foreign Investment Review Committee and the Canadian-German Lawyers’ Association, a former Chair of the CBA Mergers Committee, and an active member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht (German Antitrust Law Association). Oliver has also contributed to the American Bar Association’s task force on Antitrust, Consumer Protection, and Diverse Consumers.

Oliver previously managed McCarthy Tétrault’s UK office, bringing international insight to his clients. He is an experienced educator, having taught competition law at Western University (London) and York University, and serves as a contributing editor for Foreign Investment Review (Getting the Deal Through).

Fluent in English, French, German, and Spanish, Oliver offers comprehensive legal services to a diverse clientele. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988 and to the Bar of England and Wales in 1995.
