Renée Pelletier is a distinguished partner at Olthuis, Kleer, Townshend LLP (OKT), proudly of Maliseet ancestry. Renée brings decades of experience in Aboriginal and treaty rights litigation, as well as specific claims. She has represented clients in judicial review applications and appeared before all levels of courts in motions, trials, and appeals.
Highly respected in her field, Renée Pelletier was cited by the Supreme Court of Canada in the landmark decision R. v. Ipeelee, 2012 SCC 13. She is dedicated to advising and representing Indigenous clients on consultation matters, regulatory and environmental law, reserve land management, and the negotiation of impacts and benefits agreements. Her extensive expertise also includes environmental reviews, having served on the Independent Federal Environmental Assessment Expert Review Panel.
Renée was one of the lead counsels in Canada’s first Aboriginal title to water case and is currently lead counsel for the Wolastoqey Nation’s major Aboriginal title claim. Her leadership and commitment to Indigenous rights and environmental advocacy distinguish her as a trusted legal advisor across New Brunswick and Ontario.
A passionate educator, Renée Pelletier is a frequent guest lecturer in Aboriginal and Environmental Law. She currently serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of New Brunswick Law School and the Osgoode Professional Development Program, where she teaches courses on Aboriginal law. Renée is a member of the New Brunswick Bar, the Ontario Bar, and the Indigenous Bar Association. Proudly French Acadian, she is fluently bilingual in French and English.
