Sander Duncanson is the Co-Chair of Osler’s Regulatory, Indigenous and Environmental practice, recognized for his expertise in environmental, regulatory, and Indigenous law for natural resource developers across Canada. With a deep understanding of the legal landscape surrounding major infrastructure and resource projects, Sander offers specialized counsel for clients navigating complex regulatory environments.

Sander has represented clients before key regulatory bodies, including the Canada Energy Regulator, Alberta Energy Regulator, Ontario Energy Board, British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office, Alberta Utilities Commission, Northwest Territories Office of the Regulator of Oil and Gas Operations, and federal-provincial Environmental Assessment Joint Review Panels. He also brings significant experience litigating regulatory, environmental, and Indigenous matters across all levels of Alberta courts.

His regulatory expertise spans a range of subject matters such as oil and natural gas pipelines, oil sands (mining and in situ), LNG export, hydrogen projects, offshore drilling, hydro-electric generation, mining (coal, metal, potash, gravel, diamonds), natural gas processing, electricity transmission, and management of contaminated land. Sander routinely advises natural resource developers regarding their obligations to Indigenous groups and has a demonstrated track record in negotiating impact benefit agreements.
