Scott D. Smythe is a distinguished Partner in the Real Property and Planning Group at McCarthy Tétrault LLP’s Vancouver office. Throughout his career, Scott has represented leading real estate investors and developers, as well as owners of major office towers, industrial parks, and shopping centres. His experience encompasses the structuring, acquisition, financing, development, leasing, and sale of significant residential, industrial, retail, office, and mixed-use projects across British Columbia.

Scott is the co-author of McCarthy Tétrault’s Annotated British Columbia Strata Property Act, a key resource in the field, first published in 2002 and updated annually. He has also contributed chapters to the Continuing Legal Education Society’s Real Estate Practice Manual, Annual Review of Law and Practice, and Commercial Leasing – Annotated Precedents. Scott serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for Commercial Leasing – Annotated Precedents and is a sought-after speaker at industry conferences.

In recognition of his expertise, Scott was appointed as a Director of the BC Land Title and Survey Authority in 2017 and re-appointed in 2020.
