His experience as a patent agent involves drafting and prosecuting patent applications. With a background in mechanical engineering and computer science, Scott connects effectively with technology-oriented clients. He also advises on licensing and other intellectual property transactions and supports intellectual property litigation. Scott prepares and prosecutes patent applications in Canada and globally and is listed on the patent agents list of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office. He provides clients with advice on patent infringement and design-around strategies when competitors’ patents pose concerns. Scott advises on the acquisition and transfer of patents and other intellectual property, enhancing clients’ understanding of their rights. Scott is recognized as a leading practitioner in intellectual property by The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory (2024) and was named “Lawyer of the Year” for Intellectual Property Law by Best Lawyers in Canada (Calgary, 2020). He was recognized for Agribusiness and Cannabis by Lexpert (2020) and in Intellectual Property Law by Best Lawyers (2017–present). He was called to the Bar of Saskatchewan in 2003 and Alberta in 2008.
