Stuart Olley is a senior partner in Gowling WLG’s Capital Markets, M&A and Private Equity Groups in Calgary. He focuses on capital market transactions for both public and private enterprises, mergers & acquisitions, corporate governance and private equity. Stuart has worked for a number of issuers and underwriters on transactions in various industries including oil & gas, mining, real estate and technology. He has extensive experience in international financing and merger transactions, including work in investments and acquisitions in Africa, Central and South America, Europe and Asia. Domestically, Stuart has assisted clients in the extractive sector with financings, business combinations, (including contested proxy fights, hostile and friendly takeover bids and restructuring transactions under the CCAA and the ABCA), corporate governance and regulatory compliance. He is a past member of the Securities Advisory Council of the Alberta Securities Commission. Stuart has been recognized in The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, The Best Lawyers in Canada and the Legal 500 Canada. In 2018, 2019 and 2020, he was named an Acritas Star and in 2020, he was recognized by Best Lawyers as the Mining Law “Lawyer of the Year” in Calgary.
