Sunny Handa is a distinguished partner and the National Practice Group Leader for both the Blakes Technology Group and Communications Law Group at Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP. With a team of over 20 experienced lawyers, Sunny leads one of Canada’s premier legal teams specializing in technology and communications law.

Sunny’s practice focuses extensively on mergers and acquisitions involving technology, communications, and lifesciences/biotech companies. He is widely recognized for his experience advising foreign technology companies on their entry into the Canadian market, offering guidance on complex corporate, commercial, and regulatory compliance matters.

His expertise covers communications law (telecommunications and broadcasting), technology transactions, and significant data privacy and security issues. Sunny is highly sought after as senior breach counsel, providing strategic advice to private and public companies as well as government organizations navigating high-profile and complex cyber attacks and data breaches. As the leader behind Blakes’ annual Cyber Trends Study, he is at the forefront of cybersecurity legal developments in Canada.

In addition to his legal practice, Sunny is dedicated to legal education as an adjunct professor of law at McGill University, where he has been teaching for more than 30 years.
