W. Alfred Apps is a distinguished Canadian lawyer, recognized for his leadership and expertise in restructuring, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), private equity fund formation and investment, structured finance, securitization, and infrastructure finance. He is ranked by PLC as one of Canada’s leading legal experts in these practice areas.

With a notable track record, Alfred Apps has successfully led companies and raised capital across Canada, the United States, and Europe. His significant accomplishments include chairing and serving as a director for numerous public and private organizations. In 1993, he was appointed CEO of The Lehndorff Group, where he managed a $1 billion debt restructuring involving 47 lenders and was instrumental in creating one of Canada’s first Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). Later, in 1998, he orchestrated the business combination between Lehndorff and Dundee Realty Corporation (now DREAM) and briefly served as Dundee’s president and COO before becoming CEO of Newstar Technologies Inc. After merging Newstar with three U.S. competitors in 2001, he resumed the practice of law at a national firm.

Alfred Apps joined Miller Thomson LLP in 2015, bringing unparalleled experience to clients in complex financial transactions and high-stakes legal matters. Recognized as a prominent figure in the legal and business community, he has also contributed significantly as a board member of Huron University College (receiving distinguished alumni recognition in 2018), chairman of the foundation board for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (2006–07), president of the Empire Club of Canada (2009–10), and president of the Liberal Party of Canada (2009–12). He remains actively involved in numerous arts and youth-oriented charitable organizations.
